Our hardworking Development Officer, Lee Bowen, has received another prestigious award in recognition of his service in developing table tennis talent across the whole county. He was delighted to collect the ‘Kathleen Waters Shield’ at the AGM of the Wiltshire Table Tennis Association, held at Dauntsey’s School on Friday, 5TH of July. This special recognition from Wiltshire’s table tennis community complements Lee’s earlier receipt of a ‘Wiltshire Sports Volunteer Of The Year’ award and trophy’ for 2017. No doubt, given his energy and unswerving enthusiasm, who would bet against Lee completing a hat-trick of sporting awards in the near future?

Notably, Lee’s name joins those of several past and present Sanford Link players/coaches engraved upon the Wiltshire Table Tennis ‘Kathleen Waters Shield’: Sylvia Morse, Ernie Howell and Dave Evans. Lee is in good company.

Incidentally, one pressing issue that arose and was much debated at the AGM was the present lack of female table tennis players across the whole county. In fact, last season Wiltshire teams frequently forfeited games in County matches due to the absence of any female player.

Lee and other members of our own club committee will be looking at the situation in Table Tennis with the aim of making our great sport more female-friendly. Unquestionably, the profile of/participation in Women’s Football has risen rapidly recently. Why not that of Women’s Table Tennis? Please submit your thoughts/ideas on this important issue to Lee or any other member of Sanford Link T.T.C’s committee.
